Medicare Annual Enrollment Period 2027 — Key Dates and What to Do

Every year, millions of Medicare beneficiaries miss an important opportunity: the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). This is the one window each year when you can review your current coverage, compare new options, and make changes — all effective January 1 of the following year.

If you're in Florida and currently enrolled in Medicare, here's what you need to know for 2027.

Key AEP Dates

  • October 15 — AEP opens. You can begin comparing and enrolling in new plans.
  • December 7 — AEP closes. All changes must be submitted by this date.
  • January 1 — New coverage begins for any plan changes made during AEP.

What Can You Change During AEP?

During the Annual Enrollment Period, Medicare beneficiaries can:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan
  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
  • Return to Original Medicare from a Medicare Advantage plan
  • Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan

Note: You cannot use AEP to enroll in or change a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan. Medigap has separate enrollment rules.

Why You Should Review Every Year

Plans change annually. Your current Medicare Advantage plan may have increased its premiums, changed its drug formulary, removed providers from its network, or reduced its extra benefits for the coming year. You won't know unless you compare.

A plan that was perfect for you last year may no longer be your best option. The only way to know is to do a side-by-side review before December 7.

How I Help During AEP

I run a detailed plan comparison for every client during AEP — reviewing their current plan, their doctors, their prescriptions, and their anticipated health needs for the coming year. I present the best available options clearly and without pressure, and help you enroll in whatever plan makes the most sense.

My services are always free. I'm compensated by the carriers, never by you.
